ABSTRACT
An electro-mechanically operated tri-vision billboard is a three message large outdoor advertising structure consisting of triangular prisms placed inside a frame. The prisms rotate at 1200 each, showing a new message of advertising of information. This type of billboard helps to reduce extravagant budget needed to build multiple billboards. Tri-vision serves the aim of advertising multiple adverts within a short time frame; hence the aim of this is to reduce the population of billboard in KENPOLY by providing a constructed prototype billboard which can replace conventional ones. In order to obtain the tri-vision billboard prototype, locally sourced materials like mild steel plate, a gearing system consisting of 8 spur gear in mesh were used alongside with a threaded shaft to achieve the motion that will propel the prisms. This prototype will serve as the result of this project and will also demonstrate the working principle of the design. Also, this work will present an alternative approach to the production of the tri-vision billboard using locally sourced materials. The tri-vision billboard when completed will be recommended because of its low assembly and maintenance cost and also power consumption. The material used for the design of any Engineering project will go a long way to determine the efficiency and effective performance of the design. Then, the part to be considered during the design are as follow; cost of the material types to be used, weigh of the material, size of the martial, reliability of the material and inherent engineering properties of the materials should be considered.

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
A Tri-vision, is also called three-message sign, is a billboard/sign that consists of triangular prisms placed inside a frame. The prisms rotate 1200, each showing a new message of advertisement and/or information.
It showing three individual information, It is located in public places which display advertisements to passing pedestrians and motorists. Most often, they are located on main roads with a large amount of passing motor and pedestrian traffic; however, they can be placed in any location with large amounts of viewers, such as on mass transit vehicles and in stations, in shopping malls or office buildings, and in stadiums.
The Tri-vision is most commonly used as a commercial sign and is used both indoors and outdoors. Billboard is the common term used to describe a type of outdoor advertising found along major highways. This name is most frequently given to large steel-framed signs, which are mounted on poles 20-100 ft. (6.1-30.5 m) above the ground. Most often, the sign is printed on large poster sheets, which are affixed to the face of the sign. These signs may also be equipped with a variety of special lighting and display effects. This type of sign is one component of a unique advertising medium that communicates to audiences on the go. Such promotions are also referred to as “out of home” advertising because the intended audience is usually in transit, and is always away from their homes Tri-vision billboards are commonly found along highways and in city centers. The changing messages on the rotating prisms are intended to catch the attention of its viewer. Many individual studies that have been made in different countries, shows that the movement within a Tri-vision attracts attention and increases brand impact.
The sign can be used on-demand, meaning the correct message will appear when the command is given to the sign. Commonly these signs are used in traffic and often called “Variable Message Sign” (VMS). A VMS can be used for directional, speed limit, warning, parking guidance and toll booths. The VMS can also be used in advertising for applications, such as morning- and/or evening-messages.
Objective of the Study
The main objectives of this project are to:
- Improve and protect public safety, environmental and physical health;
- To create an operational framework for outdoor advertising and signage based on a social, environmental and economic sustainability.
- To set new standards pertaining to distances between advertisements, sizes, locations
- Dissemination of all the approval standards and procedures to the public.
- Providing investment opportunities through policies that are investment friendly.
- Introduction of an efficient and reliable data management system
Statement of the Problem
To eliminate multiple signpost within the campuses and departments.
With a Tri-vision multiple messages, information could be pass to users. Example, the mechanical engineering passing information to staff and students.
To reduce distraction of signpost to motorist within the campuses.
To reduce the extravagant budget needed to build multiple billboards.
Environmental Hazard: billboards are meant to be visible in a clear view. Therefore, the trees and plant are often to give the billboard a better visibility. Cutting down trees is not environmental friendly act.
Objectives of the Study
- To achieve or been able to advertise multiple advert within a short time frame.
- By creating this tri-vision it will help to eliminate single signpost at every 3 or 4 meters along the high way, moreover multiple signpost causes distraction to motorist.
- With the innovative idea of tri-vision signpost advertisement would be at strategic positions thereby reduce distraction on motor ways.
- It will be an innovative idea towards attracting individual to advert.
- It may be used in the designing of structures (bridges, building).
Significance of Study
- It is a platform for creating brand awareness and building brand visibility and popularity.
- It can deliver a relevant message to the mass/targeted audience with ease and
- It offer a perfect creative canvas for companies to deliver their brand messages
- It is able to provide more clarity regarding the focus of the brand
Scope of the Study
The prototype would be designed for usage within the Mechanical Engineering Department of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori.
This project work is limited to the demonstration of the operating principle and functionality of tri-vision billboard.
Time constraints: the researcher will simultaneously engage in this study with other academic work. This consequently will cut down on the time devoted for the research.
