ABSTRACT

The study examines civil engineering workshop and plan layout. A workshop may be a room, rooms or building which provides both the area and tools (or machinery) that may be required for the manufacture or repair of manufactured goods.It is natural to pay considerable attention to the specifics of civil engineering construction it is, at the same time, essential to have a building of the right type taking into account the prevailing local climatic conditions.There are different types of workshops in the civil engineering field. Building components or parts are essential materials for building construction.Workshop practice is the backbone of the real industrial environment which helps to develop and enhance relevant technical hand skills required by the technician or engineers working in the various engineering industries and workshops. We recommend that practitioners and engineers should adopt workshop practice since only practice can make the man perfect and that the students are advised to undergo each skill experience with remembrance, understanding and application with special emphasis on attitude of enquiry to know why and how for the various instructions and practices imparted to them in the workshop.

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

A workshop may be a room, rooms or building which provides both the area and tools (or machinery) that may be required for the manufacture or repair of manufactured goods. Workshops were the only places of production until the advent of industrialization and the development of larger factories.

The term ‘plant’ refers to machinery, equipment and apparatus used for an industrial activity. Typically, in construction, ‘plant’ refers to heavy machinery and equipment used during construction works. (NB the word ‘plant may also refer to living organism such as trees, shrubs, and so on, or to the process of placing seeds or plants in the ground so that they can grow).

At the smaller scale, there may be some overlap between what is considered plant, small plant, tools, small tools or equipment. Very broadly, ‘tools’ might be considered to be instruments that are used by hand, whereas ‘equipment’ might refer to a set of tools used for a single purpose.

It is natural to pay considerable attention to the specifics of civil engineering construction it is, at the same time, essential to have a building of the right type taking into account the prevailing local climatic conditions. Although various types of lightweight or temporary structure can be used in hotter climates, they are usually a short term measure and if one is to build a vessel to classification standard, the requirements for the control of material storage, workshop conditions, and general layout of the various stages of construction, are fairly stringent. It would, therefore, be preferential to give the building structure and layout due thought.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Civil engineering is the profession of designing and executing structural works that serve the general public, such as dams, bridges, aqueducts, canals, highways, power plants, sewerage systems, and other infrastructure. Engineers involved in product development face many difficult challenges above and beyond solving technical problems. Engineering projects require workshop planning and layout. Workshop planning and is very important in civil engineering work. However in recent time professionals don’t consider it necessary in most ongoing project especially on project sites. Hence, the study seeks to examine modern civil engineering workshop and plant layout.

Civil engineering is one of the oldest branches of applied sciences. It comprises the design, construction, as well as maintenance of public structures and infrastructure. However, this study will help engineers to know the layout, planning and arrangement of the workshop. Civil engineering is an engineering discipline that involves the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and natural environment; including public works like roads, dams, sewage systems, bridges, airports, railways, pipelines, and structural components of buildings.Civil engineers make use of the principles of civil engineering to design the many structures we see around us. They are responsible for planning and overseeing different construction efforts and applying civil engineering principles to ensure that constructed structures are safe and study.The study when completed will add to literature on the subject matter and help policy makers, researchers as well as engineers.
