ABSTRACT
This research work is based on interpersonal relationship and its effect on productivity in an organization. To be able to carry out this study the researcher reviewed relevant literatures on the issue to form the theoretical prospective of the problem. The main instrument used in collecting data for the study was the questionnaire store 20 questions, items which 60 questionnaire were distributed to 60 office manager/clerks in Rivers State Polytechnic Bori, Khana Local Government Council and unity Bank P/c in Aba Road Branch Port Harcourt. 43 copies were retrieved analyzed and use as sample size from the analyzed, it was found that the major challenges of interpersonal relationship in a teamwork in an organization is misinterpreted of action. Findings were made and discuss base on the findings made it was recommended that every organization should see interpersonal relationship as a tools to increase productivity in an organization, interpersonal relation should not be the duty of the employee only but all level of management should involved in it.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The aim of the study is to examine “The effects of interpersonal relationship on productivity in organizations.” every organization is set up for a definite purpose. In an organizational setting, workers come together to work as a team in pursuit of organization and individual goals. Organizations rely on materials and human resources to achieve set goals and objectives of these the human element is the most important because without it no machine can function.
This work is made up of five chapters. Chapter one of this work contains the introduction, chapter two literature review, chapter three research methodology, chapter four data presentation, analysis and discussion of findings while chapter five is the summary, conclusion and recommendations.
In the past office work was seeing as a personal business in the sense that each person working man office is dispatch to their duty and they concentrated on the duty. This system of work makes the office work look boring and slow.
Recently it has been discovered that the only tools to faster productivity and accurate task done is interpersonal relationship and team working.
According to Friedrich and Dixo in Kabep and Joel (2010), interpersonal relationship is curtailed to achieving organizational goal: Thus in all organization we have negative and positive work relationship. In the view of Kitty (1998) Business and administrative communication interpersonal relationship is the ability to k positively with the attitude of problem solving.
According a retrieve work’ from (H T T P //: WWW.nhne.com) stated that performance of members of any organization depend on their ability to effectively interact with their superiors subordinates and co-workers within the organization.
In most of our today’s organization we are having people’s problem rather than business problems why it is due to faulty interpersonal relation which hinders the achievement of organizational goals. Efforts are therefore made to enhance the interpersonal skill of the people in the organization so as to solve the problem.
Team working is crucial to the success of an organization. Some team produce product, some provide services, some recommended solution to problems. Other team perhaps added add national services to the already provides ones.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Interpersonal relationship and team work are two things that work together in an organization to promote successful goal achievement.
In most of our business organization today division of Iabour which bring about team work has not been put into action. This has hindered productivity and profitability of cause it has lead to the close down of many organizations.
Any organization that does not have a good working relation is ban to fail because there will not be co-operation within them. This research work is carried out to eliminate in cooperativeness in the organization and to improve interpersonal skill of office managers working in organizations in Nigeria.
1.3 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The aim of this study 4S to identify the importance of interpersonal relationship and its effect on team work in the organization. Other sub-aims includes:
To identify types of interpersonal relationships in the business organization.
- To determine how interpersonal relationship in team work affect productivity in an organization.
- To find out the problems of interpersonal relationships in team work in an organization.
- To identify how to promote interpersonal relationship for team works in an organization.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY
The project work is going to be beneficial to governmental and private organizations and the banking sector. These are places where so many come to meet together to work with the same goals and objective. Office or organization relationships without an effective interpersonal relationship have a greater likely hold of failure in its proper running of administration. When an organization could not be able to meet up with those things shown good quality interpersonal relationship which enable a team to work effectively towards achieving organizational and individual goals the organization is working towards her down fail. This project work is going increase the working relationship in any office the earlier mention work place.
1.5 RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The following questions would guide the study:
- What are types of interpersonal relationships that exists among workers in organizations?
- How does interpersonal relationship affect productivity in an organization?
- What are the problems of interpersonal relationship among workers in an organization?
- How could interpersonal relationship promote productivity in an organization?
1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The study is focuses on the interpersonal relationship and its effects in an organization. It will be carried out in the following organizations in Port Harcourt, Rivers State; they are: Unity Bank P.L.C., Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), the Tide News Paper corporation, the Promise Fast food, Nigeria Info Radio Station, Campas Hotel Limited, The Bobby Petroleum and Ecogas Energy.
1.7 DEFINITION OF TERMS
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP: This is a strong band between two or many person.
TEAM: Group of people working together achieve goals
ORGANIZATION: Group of people who bring resources together to form a business with the aims of profit making.
PRODUCTIVITY: These groups of people who come together to work in order to achieve organizational and individual goals.
