ABSTRACT
The door alarm system is an electronic device that can be used as a security device. It is an electronic watchdog, because when installed to a door, and somebody touches the door, it sounds an alarm. The unit is built from discrete semi conductor device. It is relatively simple in both its operation and analysis. One particular feature of this project circuit (the door alarm system) is its versatility. The circuit can be adapted for their applications. All the informations necessary for its realization is contained in this project write-up. Chapter one contains the introduction to the door alarm system, chapter two contains the circuit analysis, chapter three contains the research methodology adopted, chapter four contains the design and construction while the work was concluded with chapter five.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Since the 1950s there has been a great upsurge in the development, production and application of semiconductor devices.
Today there are well over 100 million semiconductors device manufactured (Mertha, 1998).
This figure alone shows how useful semiconductors devices have become to man, both for domestics and industrial applications. Infact, the present day advancement in technology is largely attributed to the widespread use of semiconductor devices for example, security system. In the recent year security systems comprises of electronic system used to discourage the action of intruders, burglars, thieves and unauthorized person(s) in a place or places where they are installed. They alert the installer of the presence of an intruder into an office or home by means of audible alarm, siren, bell, horns etc or by visual means. A typical example of such security alarm is the door alarm system which forms the focus of this work.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE STUDY
1.2.1 THE DOOR ALARM SYSTEM
The door alarm system is an electronic system that gives an audible alarm when the door knob it is connected to, is touched. It operates on the principle of mutual induction. That is, the production of an electromotive force in a circuit resulting from a change of current in a neigbouring circuit. Sharma (2001) and Rudolf (1989). If the door is the metal type then it will sound an alarm whenever any part of the door is touched, whereas for the wooden door, the door alarm system is connected to the handle and hence, sounds an alarm only when the door handle is touched.
1.2.2 TYPES OF DOOR ALARM SYSTEM
There are two types of door alarm systems namely:
1. Contact door alarm system: this door alarm system, sounds only when there is a physical contact with the door.
2. Non-contact door alarm system: this door alarm system, does not require any physical contact to sound an alarm. It sounds an alarm whenever someone come in front of the door, it is usually called font door guard or temper proof door alarm system. For the purpose of this work, the contact type of door alarm system will be discussed.
1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The door alarm system finds application in the following areas:
1. It can be used as a burglar alarm.
2. It can be used as an intruder alarm
3. It can be modified for use as a tap door bell.
1.4 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The objectives of this project are:
1. Burglar deterrent
2. Reducing loss
3. Prevent a confrontation
4. Fire detection.
1.5 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scopes of this project are:
1. To learn about electronic circuits in particular the door alarm system
2. Become familiar with the operation of a door alarm system
3. How to install door alarm system
4. To know the principle behind an alarm system.
