CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.0     BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Mr. Biggs is the Nigeria’s first chain of fast food restaurant owed by conglomerate united Africa Company of Nigeria, founded 1973 in Nigeria with head quarter at Jota, Lagos, Lagos State.

There are currently over 170 locations in Nigeria five (5) in Ghana and 10 in South Africa.

The restaurant is named after M.C. Donald’s and is well known for its red and yellow color.

Mr Biggs history began with a coffee shop inside Kingsway Rendevous, which became on MrBigg’s in 1986. The chain saw rapid expansion after becoming one of the first Nigerian companies to sell franchise to investors. MrBiggs specially is the meat pie. A common lunch might also include scotch eggs, a sugared donut, chicken and a soft drink while western fare such as ham burgers is served.

Nigerian delicious such as jollof rice and moimoi is more popular, birthday cakes are also a popular product, and Mr. Biggs bakery offers cake at parties.

1.1     STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

In the past years, Mr. Biggs has witnessed a lot of set back and this set back has made them not to flourish in the past through the Mr. biggs product has great value but it has still brought about other competition. Other problem encountered maybe as a result of their inability to produce software and will analyze raw fact into information for the future use of the company and also group, they organize their environment to avoid theft and insecurity in the company i.e. Mr. Biggs plc.

1.2     OBJECTIVE OF STUDY

The objective of the review is to analyses and design sales software and true database which will be used in the day to day activities at the company, let us take a look at the computer and the manual computation, computer has being built in such a way that the things which are going to be computed will be easier rather than manual computation, these has created the need to build a software to al computational analysis, as in financial department. It will be easier to calculate with the computer rather than using manual which may result to a lot of mistake in the computation.

The sales of Mr. Biggs record were conducted in all level, class and sections of the companies, the record keeping sales forecasting, budget planning department, the quantity control unit and the security sections. Uses manually for measurement calculation

Most of the records in the sectionuses manually for measurement calculation. On this record they do some computation of which are used for different purposes in different department.

1.3     SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

This project is primary concerned for Mr. Biggs plc. With a special focus on Mr. Biggs Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

However this research focused on the design and implementing sales analysis software in other to calculate due cash sold by the sales person or cashier including the budgeting, sales record, stocks at hand, daily transaction etc. and how the result is stored in the database of the company as well as the software is required for the computerization and tabulation of different in amount area of the company.

1.4     DEFINITION OF TERMS

1.       DATA: basically, data is factual information. “Data” is the plural of the word “datum” which means ‘a single fact’.

Data is a general term used to describe numbers, facts, letters, symbol, names, etc. they are raw facts which are not yet processed, in this project the programmer are unprocessed data because they are not put in place to give the required output.

2.       INFORMATION: Information are the processed and unprocessed fact which are yet to be gathered or put together or processed already e.g. this project will have no value if the reason why it is written is not yet fulfilled, but when the information which means that the information is now processed.

3.       DATA ANALYSIS: data analysis is the process of analyzing and putting data in the appropriate position and implementation in order to carryout good accountability of the company.

4.       METHODOLOGY: Methodology is defined as the method by which data are calculated for the production of the software to be designed.

5.       INPUT: input is the device with which the computation is going to be queued in the computer and also data to be processed or is to enter data into a computer or data processing system.

6.       OUTPUT: Refer to data which have been processed and is then made available to the user perhaps through a printer or display screen or put into a tape or disk for storage.

7.       DATA SECURITIES: This is one of the important aspects of system control. It is the control of data to prevent its loss, misuse or disclosure of a particular data to another person. This type of control is called data security. Data security in the case of this project will be avoiding an unauthorized user from using this software coming close to the place where the software is being uses and also there should be backup of files using external device like flash drive, CD-ROM etc. the preventing measures should be preventing unwanted modification of the software from external user and this is actualized by safe-guarding the password or passcode to log into the software.
